The World Health Organization (WHO) states that 7,000 babies die every day, whereas in Indonesia it occurs at 185 per day, with an Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) of 24 per 1,000 live births. One way to prevent infant deaths is Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (IMD), where IMD can prevent hypothermia in babies. IMD is influenced by characteristic factors, knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women in implementing IMD. This study aims to determine the characteristics of pregnant women regarding IMD. The type and design used in this research is quantitative research with a cross sectional design. The population in this study was all pregnant women in the second trimester and third trimester at the Krueng Barona Jaya Health Center. The sampling technique used the total sampling method with a sample size of 111 respondents. The data collection tool uses a questionnaire developed from the concept of pregnant women regarding IMD. The results of the study showed that the majority of pregnant women were young adults aged 20 - 35 years 80%, the education of the majority of respondents was upper secondary school 64.9%, housewife occupation 69.4%, gestational age in the 3rd period (≥27 weeks) 58.6%. It is hoped that pregnant women and their families will be motivated and support the implementation of IMD during childbirth.
